Second Chance is a first-person British life sim, and Oakhaven is where it happens: an invented Midlands town of Victorian terraces, a ring road, a river with its bridges and a council estate, spread across 8.1 square kilometres.

You have done your time. Two officers drive you across the estate, pull up on Radworth Road and put you out at number six. The house is furnished, and the rent and the bills are paid, on one condition: you get yourself down the job centre in the morning and sign on. After that, find a proper job and stay out of trouble. The crowd you were running with back home is the reason you were sat in the back of a police car in the first place.

Oakhaven’s a fresh start. Don’t waste it.

The officer who drops you at number six.

The town keeps its own hours. Twenty-five residents walk the real road network on routines of their own. The Slag & Slurry opens whether you turn up or not: Charlotte serves twenty drinks off a menu you page through, and Samantha sings from seven. The weather is the Midlands. The rain comes in, the light goes flat, the verges turn to mud and the streetlamps come on one at a time down the terrace.

There is honest work going. The job centre will see you first, and the fly-tip round picks up at half nine: rubbish comes off the verges by hand, goes to the incinerator, and you get paid. There are other ways to make rent too, and most people end up running both and hoping the neighbours mind their own business.

It’s a town that was getting on perfectly well before you turned up, and it will carry on getting on whether you sort yourself out or not. What you do about that is the game.

About Second Chance

Second Chance is a first-person life sim set in Oakhaven, an invented Midlands town of Victorian terraces, a ring road, a river and a council estate. The police drop you at 6 Radworth Road with a furnished house, an empty pocket and one condition: the rent and the bills are paid for as long as you get yourself down the job centre and sign on. There is honest work going, there are other ways to make rent, and most people end up running both and hoping the neighbours mind their own business. The town keeps its own hours. The pub opens whether you turn up or not, the neighbours walk to work whether you are watching or not, and the weather is the Midlands, so bring a coat. It is being built by one person in Unreal Engine 5, in the open, with the whole process published as a devlog.
